Lo Sheng Yen was born in the Szechuan province in China, and grew up in Taiwan. She immigrated to the United States in 1983, and spent the
next two decades working and raising her children in Pensacola, Florida. In 2002, she retired from a family restaurant business and began
searching for a creative way to fill her newfound spare time. One day, she saw artwork created out of recycled soda cans, and
became inspired. Looking at the piles of magazines and catalogs in her home, she imagined that something beautiful could be
created from what otherwise would be thrown away. She began cutting old publications and fashioned the vibrant, colorful pieces into an underwater
scene of tropical fish. Inspired by her own garden and the natural beauty around her, Lo Sheng continued experimenting with her newfound craft, creating
blooming fields, oceanside escapes, and tranquil landscapes from the takeout menus, pizza advertisements and other ordinary publications that
arrived in the mail. Over the years, Lo Sheng has refined her craft, creating truly unique green works of art that capture the imagination and enliven the soul.
She currently resides in Monterey Park, California.
